My children each went off to University after getting a degree in community college. One had applied to his before his AA degree, then changed his mind. When he re-applied after getting his AA, he was actually offered much better scholarships than before. (Just because you are accepted to a college doesn’t mean you have to go to it.)
So for us, it turned out to be the way to go, but please be aware that the cost of community college has skyrocketed, too. The thing to do might be to fill out your FAFSA, then apply to the community college that interests you, then to a University or college or two. Find out what funding each would help you with, then you could get a better idea of how that would effect you financially.
In terms of education, our experience (theirs and mine) has been that, though not as intensive, the community college classes offered a high quality of learning.
Besides, after you get your degree, no one is going to ask you where you got it.
    Best wishes and good luck!
