im 16 and a junior in highschool…i have really good grades and my school is the top in our county…we need 300 credits to graduate and if i graduate early i will graduate with 300 but if i continue school i will graduate with 340 credits..at first i didnt want to graduate early because i wanted to have a “highschool experience” but to be honest i dont really care about missing out w/ my friends because im 100% positive i wont talk to any of them after highschool and plus they will probably get kicked out early senior year because most of them are failing all their classes and they could careless because all they care about is fitting in and im nothing like that…but if i graduate on time will the extra credits do anything for my admission into college or give me higher opportunities for scholarships…for us school end may 27 or june1 im not sure which but my counselor wants me to hurry up and decide so i can get started on my senior portfolio and requirements..please help i just want to get done with highschool but if staying is better for me then ill think it through…by the way ill probably end up going to a junior college first to get my general ed out of the way then transfer to a university..that way its cheaper
if it helps i live in california

I was wondering the same thing…But basically the high school credits won’t matter. If you decide to stay another year you can get AP classes and that will give you credit for college. If you want to graduate early you can also use that time to get a job and earn money for a good university or to have extra cash. Some schools don’t really like students graduating early so make sure to check. It is very unlikely that you will keep in contact with friends if you graduate early or even if you wait to graduate later(unless they go to the same university that you go to). Prom is the only thing you will miss out on the “highschool experience.” I think if you are ready for college go for it….but remember you will need to start applying, writing essays, visiting universities, etc. very very soon. Maybe talk about the Pro’s and Con’s with your parents…Good Luck!
P.S. best answer?

Okay so in the u.s you can do PSEO which is for juniors and seniors and you can take college classes that count towards college credits AND high school graduation credits/requirements so its the best of both worlds. PSEO is post secondary enrollment option and it allows high school students to enroll in colleges or community colleges courses at no charge to the student for tuition, fees, textbooks, material, or other necessary costs. You have to apply now to be eligible for it next year! I live in minnesota and am 15 and a sophmore so I am planning on going to high school junior year but doing PSEO at the U of M! Also, during this, you are still considered a high school student so you can participate in high school sports, plays, clubs, etc and you can choose to do part-time and do some classes at your high school or just do full time. I would reccomend graduating early, but ask your councilor if your state gives something like PSEO to high school student.
Best of luck
