Hi guys,
I am commencing my studies at Embry Riddle this fall, and I am competing for the International Scholarship. I have also entered the US green card lottery, which is drawn this october.
What would happen if I won a green card, whilst studying in the USA under an F1 visa with a scholarship?
Obviously my visa will not be an issue, but what about the international scholarship? Will I lose this finacial aid as I have become a permenant resident? Would they expect me to take out a loan to finance my studies like a normal citizen?
Advice really appreciated.
BTW: I grew up in Australia and the universities here do not compare with that of the United States, especially in the field of Aerospace. Cant wait to study in the USA!!!

Maybe, maybe not. You’d have to take a good look at the eligibility requirements for the scholarship program. Is it open to anyone who is not a US citizen? Are legal residents considered eligible or not? No way for anyone here to really know the answer, unfortunately. But, you could always ask your school.
Of course, your chances for winning the Diversity Visa Lottery aren’t all that great, under 1%, and you don’t have the scholarship yet either. I think you should worry about this all a bit more once you have both birds in hand and a few more facts on the scholarship program.
You are still an international student, so your scholarship should not be affected.
wow welcome and thanks for choosing Embry Riddle in Orlando FL best of the best graduated from there in 89 no problem you will not loose scholarship
No, you won’t. A green card doesn’t make you a citizen — it is still a visa, but it is a visa that allows you to work towards citizenship. Congratulations on the scholarship and good luck in the lottery. Keep entering until you win!
