Does life get better when you graduate high school or does it get worse? (personal experience appreciated)?

Currently I am a high school senior and I have had some rough times. My senior year is going okay but the issue is, my high school years were very disappointing. Mainly the reason was my location, I lived in a small southern town with nothing to do and since I am an Asian American, I ran into a few troubles with racism (we moved to this town when I was 13). I was fortunate enough to go to a magnet high school but the issue with that was

1. It didn’t have football
2. The courses were very rough in terms of difficulty
3. I was not able to take the courses I wanted and as a result I had to take medical courses since that was the track I was put on (I hated it!)
4. My grades suffered, I had an average GPA instead of a high GPA

I really want to get out of the state I reside in but the issue is

1. Parents aren’t going to pay the high out of state tuition and 2. I do not have the extremely high GPA to earn any of the presidential scholarships

I feel hopeless (GPA is a 3.5 and SAT is a 1940).

Is life after high school going to get any better?

    what u talkin' bout? Says:

Life is what you make it. Right where you are right now in life, is where you should be thinking about what college you want to attend. Maybe you don’t even want to go to college. At any rate, this is the point where you should be thinking about what you want to do with your life. Actually, you should have been thinking this through for quite a few years now. Life is actually going to get tougher for you, nothing is going to be easy. You will have a lot more responsibilities. Mom and dad’s name is not going to be on the bills, your name will be. Trust me, bills never get lost and they are always on time. As soon as you get them paid they are going to be due again. It is not cheap to live today, you have to think of not just paying the regular monthly bills, but you also have to eat! I certainly do not want to paint a bad picture, but life will definitely have its ups and downs and you will have to deal with it. Meaning, you are going to have to deal with change, because life is forever changing the rules of the game. You will have to learn how to handle frustration and pain. All things that are a part of life. Every day is a challenge, and how we are as a person in general in coping and dealing with these issues is the real deal. When you are a mature, responsible adult, you tend to be more understanding to people in general. At least this is the way that you should be. Best of luck to you with whatever you decide to do.

A 3.5 GPA and a 1940 SAT score will not get you into Harvard but it will get you into a lot of well respected colleges and will get you full rides into a lot of mediocre schools.

When you get in this stage, the best thing to do is be grateful of your surroundings and what you have been given. Living in the south probably did not do you many justices but look at it this way

    1. You went to a magnet school where people didn’t bully you because of your skin color or ethnicity, imagine the Asian kids who have to put up with that type of crap.
    2. You went to a school which taught you the value of hard work, now when you go to college you will challenge yourself more and you will be hungry and you will get those top grades.
    3. You experienced the tough life in high school and you screwed up early on, now you know what its like. Imagine the people who lived a good life when they were young but then ended up having the world come down on them or imagine the kids who got into Harvard but then flunked out.
    4. You can go to the Harvards and the Stanfords for grad school, that is when the prestige factor starts to kick in and that is when it benefits you the most.
    5. You aren’t a slacker, you are a good student and now you are going to go somewhere, your magnet school years prepped you to be a champion in college and now you will get that chance, doing good in college is what matters.
