Does anyone know of any alternative education programs for 16 yr olds in Philadelphia?

I asked this question in education but wanted to ask in Philadelhia also.

I have a 16 yr old in the Philadelphia school district. He has a learning disability and has been in programs since he was in 2nd grade. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t do the work and fails his classes which is not helping his self confidence. He is being pushed threw the system. It has gotten to the point where he doesn’t want to go to school. I have tried so many different ways and been to the school last year to get him to stay. I don’t think we can handle the next 3 yrs and I refuse to let him just quit and be a bum. I have been in contact with the school district and can’t seem to get help.

So my question is does anyone know of any alternative education programs for 16 yr olds with learning disabilities in the Philadelphia area?

Have you considered that 98% of children with learning disabilities are reacting to some toxic factor in their environment? You don’t say what you child’s problem is, and I wondered if you have ever asked. Don’t accept that your child cannot learn, and don’t blame the schools. At www.understanding-learning-disabilities.com we are licensed educational psychologists, we can help, and the help is free.

There are a LOT of options now within Philadelphia!! Ben Wright runs the Alternative Education REGION. DVHS Kelly (formerly DVHS Bustleton) offers both HS and MS programs but to access them, you must go through the District. Please look at the website and contact Ben Wright or Heloise Jettison.
