Sounds like maybe you should consider Law School and put away that viper of a father and throw away the key.

Just kidding.

Actually, when you are accepted into a Master's program you will be eligible for $138,500 in Stafford loans (they are not credit based) but unfortunately, unless you are over 24 years old, or about 8 other things, you will still be considered a dependent student. This means you will have to fill out the new 10-11 FAFSA form using a parent's income as well as yours. That's all. Your father is not LEGALLY supposed to get or cash any student loan checks that are in your name. You will need to make sure your FA Office knows this history and they and the business office has YOUR correct address to send any refund checks.

And by the way, if you do go to NY for grad school, you may have to pay out of state tuition for the first year. But it'd be worth it to get away from that monster/father that seems to have spawned a pretty smart kid.

The most important tip that can be offered is to do the research on your own. Student financial aid offices are supposed to be there to help you. They should tell you the information you need to know, help you get a loan, etc. Unfortunately research into financial aid offices has shown that some college offices only provide certain student loans. The lenders may offer the financial aid office incentives in order to get more students signed up.

http://www.worldbestloans.com/student-loans.htm

Several students in the past have found out too late that the loan they took out was not the "best" option as the financial aid offices touted. Not all offices do this, but you must be aware of it. This is why researching on your own as well as asking for help is the best thing you can do. You need to research the private lenders to determine who has the best repayment options and how their deferment plan may work.

Rave:

Here's a direct link to the Navy's information about the qualifications for the NROTC scholarship: http://www.navy.com/careers/nrotc/eligibility/

Here's the link to their explanation of the actual application process: http://www.navy.com/careers/nrotc/applicationprocess/

If you want more information about questions that aren't answered in those materials, this is the form you can use to contact the Navy directly for answers: https://www.navy.com/careers/nrotc/applicationprocess/requestinfo/

And finally, your best resource is your local recruitment station - you can find the closest office by searching using your zip code here: http://www.navy.com/findarecruiter/

I hope that helps you - good luck!

Graduate high school first and see how it goes. Trust me! Take it one day at a time.
If you want to hear God laugh. Tell him about your plans.

Of course you could.
You could also graduate high school, commit a major felony, go to prison or maybe even get the death penalty. I believe it may also be possible for you to graduate high school, go to New York, audition for a musical and wear lavender hot pants all day long. You could even think about joining the circus and if you really wanted to..... You don't even have to graduate high school.
Your options are endless.

If you're wanting to join the Marine Corps, your best bet after an ROTC scholarship would be the Platoon Leadership Course (PLC) Ask a recruiter about it.

I think it's after you finish ALL your school. I apply for my scholarships through FAFSA...I go the University of Maryland University College and our login pages are like gifts in silver platters. The page will update us when to apply to FAFSA, what scholarships are available through them or through the school. Not sure if other colleges have the same.
