Can An Engineering Average Of 53% With A Gre Score Of 1400 Be Enough To Gain A Scholarship For Ms In Usa?

I’m an Engineering student pursuing I.T. from Mumbai…..
Considering the fact that I have 8 KT’s throughout my degree, what’s the probability that I might land up with an MS in USA….
Also what of universities can I get:Good or mediocre
Currently I’m in my last year…..
And I’ll be applying for the fall of August 2009.

Before worrying about what university you can enter in the US I would first worry about if you can get a student visa. If you are not able to get a student visa to enter the US then regardless of what scholarship you might be offered the offer will be meaningless. Also I would worry about if your academic transcripts and experience is equivalent to a US bachelor degree. If not regardless of your GRE score you will not be admitted to a MS program in the US.
Because you are applying from overseas I would also recommend contacting the schools that you are interested in applying to see if you need to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) too. If you do your TOEFL score may be given more weight than your GRE scores. Once you are clear about what you need to do in order to make your application complete I would recommend applying to them. I suspect you will not be told of any scholarship decision until you have been accepted and you have been approved for a student visa. Once and only once you have been issued a student visa can you attend your school and enter the US.
Finally I would also recommend that you read closely the requirements for the scholarship and see if you need to be a permanent resident or a citizen of the US. I suspect most university sponsored scholarship will be given to those who are legal permanent residents before going to international students due to the fact international students are required to pay their own way if they want to attend. If the school will give a university scholarship to an international student I would suspect they would give it to someone with high academic achievements. A 53% is a D- by US standards. Even by English (UK) standards it is quite low as in the UK it is a equivalent to a low 2:2 which would be, most likely too low for admission for a master program and definately too low for an academic scholarship. Typically in the UK most schools require at a minimum a high 2:2 degree which roughly translates into 57% with most preferring 2:1 (60% – 69%) or full-honours 70%+. In my opinion given your low score of 53% it is my belief, provided you are able to get a student visa, getting a scholarship into a US MS/MA program is a long shot at best.
