Background Information About Ged Highschool Diploma?

My daughter will graduate from a regular High School next year, but with a GED exam. She got her first eight years of school education in Germany, was homeschooled for about three years then, and therefore could not bring enough High School credits, when she joined school here for the second half of her Junior Year. She’s a Senior now, straight A, with above average language skills – including speech and drama -, with an excellent voice (chamber & church choir), very talented in arts (drawing, sculpture), not too enthusiastic (but o.k.) about algebra, physics, etc. Next May, she will graduate from High School with a “normal” High School Diploma, but – as based on the GED test – without the regular transcripts.
I am wondering what experiences others may have with the GED exam in general, and especially concerning the application for college education, scholarships. Any recommendations, DOs or DON’Ts?

Being from UK myself and am now a Mature student, I left high school with NO qualifications at all, I came to the USA and studied to get the GED diploma, I managed to PASS 1st time…
I wanted to get into college, but the college of my choosing said NO, because they can’t transfer the GED diploma into a GPA, so they gave me the option to take the ACT or SAT…I needed to get a 24 on ACT or 1089 on SAT then they would accept my application…I could only get a 21 on the ACT…
So now they said that i can take 24 credit hour in a community college then i could transfer over to my 4 year college…
The end of this semester i will have 28 credit hours, I’m currently taking all my general education classes at community college then i will transfer over to complete my main degree…
    Hope this helps…
