Australia And High School There?

I have a few questions here about high school in australia.
well, firstly, how is the structure of the school day? like what time does school start, and end and activities after that?
secondly, what happens if you’re from some Asian countries (like Malaysia) and you’re 15 and you’re moving to Australia. how are you going to fit in? i understand that there’s LOTE (language other than english) in their timetables. and we malaysians study only chinese, english and malay here. and if there aren’t any of these languages, and there are only a few options like German or Italian, how would we fit in? do we have to start in Year 7 even if we’re supposed to be in year 9?
thirdly, what are some good catholic schools around Melbourne, or Victoria? and are they expensive? are they semi-private or private?
and are the fees and uniforms and such expensive? is it possible for us to get a discount or perhaps a scholarship?
are there any big examinations over there that would determine big Stuff. like your future classes and such?
and if there are anything else, please list it down here.

Most schools start at about 8.30 or 9am and go to 3 or 3.30pm. The duration of classes varies between schools (some last only 40 mins whilst other schools have lessons for 1 hour). You usually get a 30 min morning tea and 45 – 60 min lunch break. Depending on the school, some offer after school activities whilst others do not.
I’m sure you can take Malay as a subject. Languages which are not German, Italian, French are usually taken during Saturday school. This means that children from around the community from different schools all gather together for classes on Saturdays.
If you’re in year 9, they will not make you take an individual subject in another year. Whatever year you join all your subjects will be taken at that grade or level.
I’m not from Melbourne so not sure of the good schools. Catholic schools would be classed as semi private though fees are substantially much lower than private schools. Not sure of any discounts or scholarships best to contact the Catholic Education Commission for more information.
Most schools have a uniform shop that you can buy used uniforms for much lower prices.
I know that Victoria has a state wide exam in year 12 which will determine whether your ability to study further, refer to Dept of Education link.

My school is a government school (Thats a public school) If you are moving from Malaysia that will not be a problem, because you seem to know english perfectly!! We learn Italian as our second language. In year 9 you will get to choose most of your subjects. At my school the uniform is fairly expensive, it costs about 300 dollars altogether. For private schools I know that just the hat is about 85 dollars…
You will be able to get a scholarship.

    Timetable is set out as:
    Period 1
    Period 2
    Recess
    Period 3
    Period 4
    Lunch
    Period 5
    Period 6
And depending on the school is when you start, finish and have roll call.
And they would put you in the right year. If you had trouble with english they may assign a helper for you.
Uniforms are a pain in the butt! It’s normally only the shirt and jumper you have to worry about.
There are half yearlys and yearlys which determine your classes.
In year ten you have you High School Certificate.
Depending on the school is the languages… my old school did Japanese and German.
There are formals and stuff like that, but they aren’t a problem at all!
    Hope I helped :)
